Award winning farmer headlines free waterways event at Stroud

Midcoast Council invites community members to a free event on Friday 18 November, when the 2016 Waterway and Catchment Report Card will be released, to hear Lynne Strong speak about how her family’s farm, Clover Hill Dairies at Jamberoo, became internationally recognised for sustainable intensive farming.

Healthy catchments are fundamental to life in our region and each year Council engages scientists to monitor and report on the state of our waterways.

The catchment monitoring was undertaken by an independent scientific team, from the Estuaries and Catchments Unit of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage” said Council’s Catchment Officer, Debbi Delaney.

The role of agriculture in the health of waterways is important and MidCoast Council seeks to support the agricultural industry in our region through improved farming methods that lead to sustainable growth and protection of our waterways.

Intensive farming with increased farm productivity is possible using methods that preserve catchment health, and these issues will be showcased with the Report Card release.

So how healthy are our waterways?
Do we have room for improvement?
Is intensive farming compatible with catchment health?

These questions will be answered at the event, and guest speaker Lynne Strong will share her own experiences.

“Our business is a partnership between our cows, our landscape and our community,” said Lynne “and I am passionate about fostering greater connections between urban Australians and farming communities in order to tackle the challenges of feeding the world sustainably.”

The evening will also feature fresh food from local producers within the catchments of the Report Card.
