Members shoot 3D archery which is the fastest growing archery sport in the world.
Rubber animal targets are set in bushland at unknown distances and the archer then has to estimate distance and make a shot to score the highest points.
The beauty of this form of archery is no two targets are ever the same.
Steven Richards of Port Stephens Archers told News Of the Area, “You also need to walk around a course through bushland and so get a fair amount of exercise throughout the course of the day.”
The Club will also shoot an indoor series of an evening.
“This is challenging as well but it’s also a great way to improve form and technique for the outdoor series.”
One of the reasons both founders of the club enjoy this form of archery is we can do it with our kids.
There is no minimum age to participate so long as there is an adult to supervise the child and the rules are followed it is an extremely safe sport.
Stevens’ two daughters have both been shooting a bow since they were five and they absolutely love it.
Archery is a safe, fun and engaging sport that people of all ages and fitness levels can share and enjoy.
“We are still trying to find a suitable place to use as our clubs outdoor area and if we can find a hall or building that’s available of an evening through the week we could get the indoor series kicked off almost immediately,” he said.
