The annual election of office bearers was held and outgoing president, Penny Dawson, reported on a highly successful past year with the Friendship Group, now one of the largest such groups in Port Stephens.
With a wide-range of activities held regularly, there was always something to interest most.
The new committee is Philip Greentree (publicity), Noelene Male (Treasurer), David Long (president), Margaret Wilbow (VP), Roslyn Holman (Secretary), Beverly Lee (Founder), Sylvia Maxfield (Auditor), Yevonne Cashman (Committee), with the team of Margaret Crittenden, Deborah Long, Rita Harvey and Robyn Fitzalan taking on the challenge of delivering some great activities for the membership.
A Changeover Luncheon was held at Horizons Golf Club, at which the new committee was introduced to the 69 attendees.
Philip Greentree told News Of The Area, “Early September, saw a large group of members visited Fighter World at Williamtown for a guided tour of this amazing aeronautical museum, followed by lunch in the museum’s cafeteria.
“It was a most enjoyable day was had by all who attended, most impressed at excellent range of exhibits,” he said.
The group also undertook a wonderfully relaxing cruise of the Bay aboard the Port icon, the “Wally”.
They travelled from Nelson Bay, as far west as Karuah, before continuing on to Lemon Tree Passage for lunch.
Then it was back to Nelson Bay, where all agreed they had experienced a wonderful day on the water.
The members were treated to a spectacle by the dolphins that inhabit the western Port between Soldiers Point and Karuah.
The Friendship Group has plenty of future events planned.
Regular monthly events include, the movies at Nelson Bay Cinema; the monthly coffee club, which visits different coffee outlets; monthly luncheons, and a monthly “happy hour” at Roy Wood Reserve, Salamander Bay.
There are also plans for outings that go further afield including a trip away to the Warrambungle Ranges past Coonabarabran.
