Apart from a light shower on Monday, Hawks Nest Golf Club dodged the rain all week resulting in 1146 rounds of golf being played by visiting veterans from 71 clubs across NSW and Queensland, including a contingent from Townsville.
The major event is the NSWVGA Shield conducted over the two days Tuesday & Thursday.
Michael Howard from Sth West Rocks won the men’s shield with 83 points and Gabriella Catanzariti from Terrigal with 74 points winning the ladies shield.
An Irish fourball was played on Monday where Clyde Wyborn, Wayne Jennings, Michael Burdonall from Gosford and Joe Zancolich from Kiama won the event with 95 points.
Bill and Rhonda Pitt from Pacific Dunes took out Fridays 2BBB with 48 points.
Three hundred and forty seven attended Thursdays presentation and dinner dance.
The meal was good, the music terrific and feedback suggests a fantastic night was had by all.
Testimony to the success of this tournament is that more than 300 have already requested entry forms for next years event and the phone is running hot with requests from people who received glowing reports on this years event enquiring about the possibility of a start next year.
We were delighted to have both the Australian and NSW Veteran Golfers Association President Dick Farrant and his wife Marie play the tournament.
Dick, sent us an E.Mail after the event and said, “Just touching base to once again thank you and your great committee for the tournament last week. It was refreshing to talk to all the helpers, as I played each day, thanking them for their time, and getting back from them commitment and pride in what they were doing. I found it quite infectious and it just added to a great week of companionship and enjoyment…….” “…I acknowledge the great input of Hawks Nest Golf Club and RSL LifeCare.”
In addition we acknowledge valuable support from local businesses North Coast Holiday Parks, Hawks Nest Beach, Ella’s Boutique and BTs for Fashion.
The success of this tournament is underpinned by an army of volunteers, together with tremendous support from our major sponsor RSLLifeCare.
