HEART Beats fitness group is raising heart rates and promoting healthy lifestyle changes in people of all ages.
The group has been running for fifteen years in Medowie, and has had steady attendance the entire time.
Group members are led by their passionate teacher, Elizabeth Hamilton.
With our nation finally sitting up and taking notice of the importance of mental health as well as physical health, this fitness provides an invaluable service to people in Medowie and beyond.
The Heart Beats group has seen many members forge lifelong friendships and support networks.
They meet to work on their physical health, but have found the group gives them so much more.
The group regularly organises social evenings and events together, and are often spotted after their Friday class, enjoying a cuppa and a chat at Sportz Cafe at Medowie Sports Centre.
One Heart Beats member, Rick Porter, told News Of The Area “We don’t just come for the physical health class, this group is so much more.”
“At any age, it is so important to keep an active social life and to take care of your mental health.”
“Being a part of this group does that for the members, and so much more,” he said.
Another member, Libby Dingle, told News Of The Area, “Any age or fitness level is welcome to join us, and anyone will find they feel comfortable here.”
“The changes in people from when they first began attending are amazing.”
The energetic group have three sessions a week, and attendees can choose to attend one, or all three.
Classes are held at the Medowie Community Hall on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for an hour class at 9am.
