Mrs Bramble’s quote, “If you are having a bad day, just go and lose yourself in a book”, is displayed on a plaque as a reminder of her dedication and commitment to the students of the school. The reading corner was established with donations from the Bulahdelah Garden Club and the Bramble family. “The corner reflects Mrs Bramble’s devotion to education,” School Librarian Jody Mostyn said. “We saw a need for a quiet space for all children to read, so we used the funds to make an area in her honour.” Mrs Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Bramble OAM had a long association with Bulahdelah Central School, first as a classroom teacher in the 1960s and then as assistant principal in the 1980s. She was an Official Friend of the School and was loved by students, parents, community members and fellow teachers. Even on her retirement, Mrs Bramble remained active within the school and community and was a member of 26 committees across the region. She was also heavily involved with Bungwahl Public School and supported trainee teachers through the University of Newcastle. Her enormous contribution to both education and her community were recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia in 1999. Ms Mostyn said the reading corner is always very popular and is used by all students from Kindergarten to Year 12.
