MEMBERS of the Bulahdelah RSL Sub Branch acknowledged Vietnam Veterans Day with a Commemoration Service at the Cenotaph in Meade Street last week.

The service was led by RSL President Peter Millen who served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and marked the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan.

The commemoration included the sounding of the Last Post and one minute silence allowing those gathered to remember the men and women who fought in Vietnam as well as those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

RSL Secretary Steve Pell said the members of Bulahdelah RSL Sub Branch believe it is very important to recognise all service men and women in all conflicts equally.

“Those who fought in Vietnam and lost their lives should be remembered for the sacrifice they made to defend us,” Mr Pell said.

“It is especially important that we give them the same amount of recognition that we would give to veterans of any other conflict.”

Plaques on the Cenotaph in Bulahdelah acknowledge those from the local area who made the ultimate sacrifice in all conflicts, including those who served in Vietnam.

“We will remember them, Lest we forget.”
