WITH the local rugby scene expected to revert back to its normal Mid North Coast existence in 2021, the Coffs Snappers have reverted to who was supposed to coach them if the pandemic hadn’t hit.

Brendan Hoy will lead the first grade team with Greg Wilson standing right next to him on the sidelines.

The two Robs, Waddy and Denne will be in charge of the reserve grade side while Chris Martin and Brett Chapman will be passing on their knowledge to the under-18s.

The club is saddened though as the women’s coach for 2020, Rick Murray, recently passed away.

Brendan Hoy said the Snappers can look forward to familiarity next season.

“It’s the same set-up as last season before COVID hit,” Hoy said.

“All the senior coaches are back on board except for the women’s team which is really sad for everyone. We’ve got a few feelers out at this stage to see who will be coaching the women next year.”

Hoy said early indications suggest the Snappers will again be a strong club next year.

“Numbers wise we’re looking good but I suppose that doesn’t mean a thing until the first official training session on 19 January,” he said.

“We’ll be hoping we can add a few backs to the list. Our forwards look really solid but our backs, we need to add to our depth there.

“We’ve also got some good juniors coming through. There are about four or five from the under-18s that are quality footballers.”

Plans are also afoot at the Snappers to make a big splash after the 2021 season.

The club aims to host a Sevens tournament in October and Hoy said the club has big plans for it.

“We’re hoping for that to be one of the biggest in Australia,” he said.
