Port Stephens schools celebrated the week through a series of in-school and public events. One of the highlights of the week was a series of performances by local primary and high schools at Marketplace, Raymond Terrace. The schools, through dance performances, music, and showcasing work, demonstrated to the local community the great achievements of public schools. Wirreanda Public School opened the doors to parents to see how the classrooms work, planted trees, and hosted a family picnic with performances from the ukulele group, drum corps, and dancers. On Tuesday night, along with other schools including Irrawang High, they also performed at the evening Showcase. The week capped off with fundraising for Jeans for Genes Day. Salt Ash Primary School combined NAIDOC Week and Education Week for a celebration extravaganza. This included awards given out at a special assembly and cultural events throughout the week. Medowie Public School held a Love Of Learning assembly as their culminating Education Week activity. The assembly recognised students from each stage who show a love of learning and it also showcased students’ performances. Education Week is an initiative of the Department of Education and this year there was a stated commitment to system wide improvement; high expectations for all; personalised student learning; wellbeing; and creating stronger ties with local communities.
