“There are a lot of good people around this place,” he said.

Geoff is especially impressed with how Port Stephens Council has responded to his situation regarding his council strip, which he can no longer maintain.

After being advised that council had received complaints about the state of the council strip, Geoff contacted the Council and was very impressed when he found the staff member helpful and understanding of his situation.

He was even more impressed when an offer to send out a team to cut the grass was made, which of course he accepted. At this stage though, he is unsure if this is a long-term offer of support or a one off.

With declining health and mobility, Geoff is unable to maintain his garden and told News Of The Area, “It’s not that I don’t care, I simply physically can’t do it now. I’ve planted fruit trees and put in an irrigation system and now I sit back and look at it going to waste, it frustrates me as I know it needs to be done.”

He said, “I have a ride on mower, if someone wants to come and cut the grass for me they can use it, but I can’t.”

If you have a couple of hours free and would like to support Geoff in getting his garden back to how it once was or are able to help him maintain the council strip, please contact Mandy at [email protected]
