Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie has continued his regular visits to the area, meeting with business owners and community groups in Bulahdelah last week.
With a strong turnout from locals and visitors, community members took the opportunity to discuss Federal issues with the National Party MP.
Many varied topics were raised by the community including Coal Seam Gas, superannuation, the Federal Budget and energy reduction.
“We are on target to reduce our power emissions by 28 per cent,” Dr Gillespie said.
“This is becoming more possible as renewable energy costs are reducing.”
Dr Gillespie also responded to questions about services in the local area.
“We are doing the television tower in the Bulahdelah area at the moment,” Dr Gillespie said.
“We are also focusing on nationwide programs such as better roads and improved internet access.”
Other topics raised with the Federal Member included the submarine program, Manus Island and South China Sea, foreign property investment and capital equipment for small businesses.
“Small business employs far more people in regional areas than big businesses,” Dr Gillespie said.
The evening was hosted by Bulahdelah Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
Business representatives and community members present said they appreciated the open and honest discussion relating to the issues raised.
While visiting Bulahdelah, Dr Gillespie also took the opportunity to meet with a number of small business owners before enjoying dinner at the Plough Inn Hotel.
Dr Gillespie said he plans to continue his regular visits to the area.
