He has been invited to attend the prestigious awards at a Gala Presentation Dinner to celebrate and honour his achievements.

The Gala Dinner will be held on Friday 30 April 2021, at Doltone House – Darling Island.

Mr Skinner spoke with News Of The Area and said, “I had no idea at first that I had been nominated and I still don’t know who nominated me.”

Lachlan suspects it is his work in the Local Aboriginal Land Council, establishing OneMob Radio and years of volunteering on community committees that has led to his nomination.

“I’m a Proud Gumbaynggirr man from Coffs Harbour,” he said.

“I am the Operations Manager of the Coffs Harbour and District Local Aboriginal Land Council.”

Mr Skinner has been actively involved in planning events for the Aboriginal community since he was 16 years old.

He has also been volunteering in Coffs Harbour from the age of twelve in activities such as NAIDOC Week event planning and the Saltwater Freshwater Festival.

“It’s nice being nominated for an award.

“Although we don’t do what we do to be recognised but when we are it is a nice feeling.”

“I just want to thank all those people that love and support the work that I do every single day, it means the world to me,” he said.

Judging takes place on February 24 and category winners will each receive two thousand dollars worth of prizes and a trophy.

Lockie is up for the overall winner of the 2021 NSW/ACT Young Achiever of the Year.
