Irrawang High School welcomes new PDHPE Head Teacher

IRRAWANG High School farewelled their much-loved PDHPE teacher Mr Turner last year, and knew they were big sports shoes to fill.

Those shoes have been filled, and the new wearer of these shoes and the new Head Teacher PDHPE is Mr Peter Hosking.

Mr Hosking has previously taught at Callaghan College, Wallsend and Waratah campuses, and was involved with Talented Athlete Programs for students at Girri Girri Sports Academy for Indigenous Students and the Bourke Clontarf Academy, both in Western NSW.

Mr Hosking’s personal sporting background has predominantly been tennis, which he has been coaching for twenty years.

He was also involved with touch football, golf and cricket as both a player and coach.

He is the current Hunter Schools Sport Australia Girls Cricket convener and manager.

Mr Hosking has many exciting plans for a new sports program at school this year including CHS Sporting competitions, Newcastle and Hunter Sport Gala Days, Swimming (competitors only), Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals, lunchtime sporting competitions and school sport within the local community.

In 2018 Mr Hosking will also be implementing a number of endeavours and programs at Irrawang High School.

These will include the Partner Primary School Transition Gala Days (run by Year 9/10 PASS classes)

House V House Sporting competitions, Whole School Swimming Carnival, Sport Specific Physical Activity and Sports Studies electives, inter-school competition with Hunter/Port Stephens schools and Swim and Survive program for year 7 students (2017 Term 4).

An Irrawang High School representative told News Of The Area, “There are exciting times ahead for our school sports program, and it is wonderful to see”
