Karuah Bowling Club

BUSY days recently at the Karuah Bowling Club. Club Championships, Pennant Competitions, District finals, Gala Days and Annual General Meetings!

RSL Club Secretary Manager Ross Parr said, “The RSL Club is very proud of its bowling club and their achievements, some great use has been made of our clubs grass green, widely recognised as the best on the coast.”

The Ladies Club has seen the final of the clubs 2018 Ladies Pairs Championship, with Christine Davies and Merridie Rees getting up in a hard fought final, in front of a big crowd on the verandah, over Robyn Latimore and Lyn Cale.

Chris and Merridie, best mates, then had to play each other the next week in the first round of the club Ladies Major Singles Championship!

Merridie said, “Chris and I just enjoy playing so being against each other for a change was great fun.”

Chris came out in front in a game marked by club stalwart and very popular lady bowler Fay Barclay. There was some great bowling and good natured banter both on the green and from the big crowd on the verandah.

The Men’s Pennant teams are playing as I write this for positions in the district finals. The clubs 4s team looks to have secured its spot, while the 6s are very close.

While our 4s and 6s will play away the finals of the district 3s will make use of the best green available and will play their finals at Karuah next weekend. 48 of the Newcastle districts best bowlers will descend on our club next weekend (21/22 Jul) to battle out the ownership of the 2018 Grade 3 District Pennant.

Anyone wanting to watch this high quality team bowling is invited to come down to the club to spectate on both days.

The Men’s AGM is on the last Sunday this month and competition for all positions indicates the healthy position of the club.

The ongoing management of the club will see the great relationship with the Karuah RSL and the commitment to assisting new and transferring bowlers to embrace the game in the friendly environment at Karuah continue. Bowling is a great competitive and social sport for all ages, you should give it a try. See you at Karuah.
