The events celebrate NSW Youth Week, an annual statewide celebration organised by young people, for young people.

Port Stephens Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) representative, Mahaylia Soars, said the events across the Local Government Area are in line with young residents’ expectations.

“Young people want something fun and engaging that recognises the topics that need to be addressed among them,” she said.

“The Youth Advisory Panel passes ideas for issues and events onto Council as we brainstorm them at our meetings.

“We are in with trends that are going on among our peers at meetings and also at events such as the Youth Forum,” Ms Soars said.

Council’s General Manager Wayne Wallis said Council works in tandem with the YAP on addressing issues that affect young people.

“Council is proud of its record engaging our young people on issues that are important them, such as Youth Mental Health,” he said.

Light up the Library takes place from 6pm-8pm Friday 7 April at Raymond Terrace Library.

This event will showcase PS24 entries and winners, live music, interactive arts and circus activities and a drumming jam.

Food and drink will be available.

  1. Thank you YAP & PSC the young people who attended had lots of fun activities and engaging entries were featured in all Categories of the PS24 Creative Challenge Competition. The Winners of the Showcased works showed maturity well beyond their actual ages and we thank the Port Stephens Council for much needed artistic & creative opportunities to local Youth during National Youth Week 2017. I look forward to next years entries and Winners with much interest – the depth of creativity is shining bright for Port Stephens Youth 🙂
