In fact she is small – she stands at just under 5 foot tall – but delivers big things for her community.
Locally Lorraine is known as a pocket rocket.
She has been active with a number of organisations over the years and was recently awarded Freeman of Port Stephens.
Lorraine has worked tirelessly with organisations like Rotary, the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Services, the VIEW Club and the Corlette Parks and Halls committee.
Lorraine also assisted with the delivery of a recent event which raised funds for motor neuron disease.
The newly named Freeman joked that it should be a Freewoman of Port Stephens because she has been free for a very long time.
Lorraine Nicol proudly told News Of The Area, “The VIEW Club now has 11 children that they support.
“I like doing things that make a difference,” she said.
Lorraine also joked that she might be a “Freeman” but she still has to pay rates!
She has plans to do more work on the Corlette Point Headland track and they are seeking some young volunteers to assist with the works.
Lorraine remembers fondly taking a group of youths through Central Australia where she had to pitch her own tent.
Lorraine is recognised locally as a fiesty hero.
One that rolls up her sleeves and makes a difference wherever she can.
Our community is richer for the efforts of those who volunteer and one thing is certain Lorraine Nicol Freeman of Port Stephens has made a very big difference.
