The development, which fell within the Mambo Wetlands precinct, had faced strong community opposition since being made public.

Speaking today, the Mayor said that whilst Councillors were yet to debate and consider the matter, they were very aware and supportive of the community’s concern regarding the proposed development.

“Myself and many of my colleagues campaigned during the recent election on a platform of protecting our valuable environment. With that in mind, Council, has listened closely to the community’s voice on this issue,” he said.

“Council staff have been outstanding in the way they have dealt with this DA. There has been a huge amount of pressure from outside sources, but their transparency and their consultative and patient approach has seen the community’s interests well served.”
