Whilst there police were tending to an intoxicated male.

At this point his 25 year old friend has intervened and attempted to help the male by claiming he was “a police officer from Newcastle”.

He was warned a number of times to leave the area which he chose to ignore.

He was eventually detained and it was confirmed he was not a police officer.

He was charged with hindering police and impersonating a police officer.

The man is to appear before Dungog Local Court with a date to be fixed.
