It was a successful meeting, albeit a little subdued with member numbers a little over 50% of the membership.
Kevin Tomlinson told News Of The Area, “Members were following Covid-19 protocols and maintaining social distancing was paramount – all members were all fully aware and respected the requirements.”
The meeting had a Guest Speaker, Mr. Graham Giddey, who spoke about his times as a Supervisor in the Search and Rescue.
His detailed description of the logistics in the rescue of 3 sailors in the solo round the world yacht race in January 1997 in the Southern Ocean was particularly enthralling.
“The world coverage of the rescue of Tony Bullimore was especially daunting since his yacht had turned upside down and the sailor was presumed dead until an Aussie sailor dived and found him in the upside down boat after hearing his tapping on the hull,” he said.
The Medowie members were entertained by the Speaker’s tales of rescues and mishaps.
The Medowie Probus Club meets on the third Wednesday of each month at the Medowie Community Centre starting at 10.00 am and all are welcome.
The club members are looking forward to their annual Birthday Lunch which is being held on 12 August 2020 at the Greenhouse at Pacific Dunes.
While the lunch will be a month late this year due to Covid-19 it will be a great opportunity to catch up on how everyone has been getting on throughout the pandemic.
Probus is intended for retired and semi-retired people who like the companionship in the mantra of Probus, fun, fellowship and friendship.
