For the first time in ten years, the Medowie Marauders Rugby Union Club will be fielding a women’s team.
They will joining the Hunter Women’s Rugby Union competition, and will be up against clubs who have been in the competition since it was founded.
The Medowie girls however, are ready for the challenge and can’t wait to make their mark in the world of Women’s Rugby.
One of the founding members making efforts to get the women’s team off the ground is Elysia Montgomery.
She told News of the Area, “The Club is trying to expand and diversify, so not only will this will be a great thing for the area, it will be a wonderful thing for the women of the area for fitness and friendship.”
“We already have Reece Montgomery as our head coach, and he will have James Hough as his assistant coach.”
The Club is currently in negotiations with a prolific major sponsor.
“We are excited for next season and can’t wait to get the ball rolling,” Ms Montgomery said.
The Club is looking for more sponsors and players. A community meeting is scheduled for 11 December at Medowie Sportz Cafe at 4pm.
