IF you are looking for a new family activity or sport that both adults and children can do to keep fit and meet new friends, Tennis might be the sport for your family.
Medowie Tennis Club Inc. was started in Medowie forty years ago and have had many men and women playing on the courts for their own enjoyment.
With a statewide drop in numbers overall for the sport of tennis, Medowie Tennis Club also experienced a decline in registrations, and experienced a number of years of relatively low member numbers.
Medowie Tennis Club is now proud to announce that their club has had a resurgence of new members, and is bouncing back with people finding and falling in love with this great sport again.
A great committee is running the Medowie Tennis club this year, and they have set themselves a high standard to work at.
This club was not the only one that was having a time of many not playing tennis but was happening all over this state.
The committee has been actively working hard to raise funds to better the club this year.
Two courts have been refurbished, meaning the club now has three synthetic grass courts and two hard courts.
One of the hard courts will have Hot Shots courts so that the club can cater for the young children that want to play tennis.
There will also soon be a practice wall installed, so that anyone who wishes to come down and practice may do so.
Sam Osborn is the Medowie Tennis Club coach and he has been coaching for the club for two years.
The children Sam coaches are aged four years and upwards and lessons take place on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The club has some boys and girls that are showing a great deal of promise.
Diane Rees told News Of The Area, “I paid a visit last week to see the children that Sam teaches and was so pleased to see his students so enthusiastic and have so much pleasure and fun with their lessons.”
Sam Osborn can be contacted on 0421 460 748.
During the year Sam runs coaching camps, and round-robin style competitions during the holidays.
The club also hosts ‘come and try tennis’ days with a free barbecue and will advise when the next day will take place.
