In all, 177 competitors took to the water, up 30 percent on last year’s meet. From the home-side, 28 Myall Masters Swimmers competed, 9 of whom had never swum in a Masters event before. “Long time pool staff member Wayne was amazed at the participation,” Chris said, “There was over 200 people gathered poolside, the largest in living memory,” Chris said. And let’s not forget the 65 volunteers required to run the event. As for the all-important results, Country V’s City relay, with 8 swimmers in each team, was won this year by Country by the narrowest of margins. 16 events on the day equated to over 160 races at the Tea Gardens pool, so we’ve not enough space to list all the winners. But here’s some of the first place getters in the individual age group events. Christine Sefton in the 45 to 49 group and Leon Bobako in the 70 to 74 age race. Chris Lock and Peter Kellaway both came in third in their respective age group races. In the Team events, all six teams had podium finishes including 3 first places. Chris Lock said, “Thanks to Tea Gardens Lions, Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf life Saving Club, Tea Gardens Public School, Family Research Group, for their contribution to ensure the success of the event.” By: Margie TIERNEY TEAM WINNERS: Leigh Wood, Jenny Hyde, Jaclyn Forsyth, Liz McKay.
