PCYC Nelson Bay is offering holiday clinics where kids can have fun and learn how to play basketball.

The clinics cater to kids aged five to eight, and nine to 12 from 1-5pm, on Wednesdays.

On Thursday afternoons the Under 18s play from 1-5pm.

The five to eight year olds use an 8 foot hoop rather than the standard 10 foot hoop making it easier for them to succeed in getting a goal.

The clinics offer basic skill development for the younger children and for the Under 18’s the program is a lead into a competition which is based in Newcastle in terms three and four of the school year.

Dan Howard one of Nelson Bay PCYC Basketball Coaches told News Of The Area, “We coach from beginners to representative players and offer something for everyone.”

He believes that Basketball is the best sport, as it is open to boys and girls and people with disabilities.

“Basketball is embraced by all cultures and playing with the PCYC is a good way to start, there’s no criticism, the program is based on fun and everything else follows,” he said.

Normal weekly basketball classes will re-commence when school goes back with the five to eight year olds on Monday afternoons from 3.45-4.30pm and the nine to 12s from 4.30-5.15pm who are followed by the Under 18s from 5.15-6.00pm.

The PCYC is a Charity and the school term basketball classes are only $6 per player, per week plus an annual membership fee of membership $10 per person under 18 years of age.

The great news for parents wishing to sign their child up for classes with the PCYC is that they are participating in the Active Rebate Program so $100 of your child’s sports fees will be paid for through the rebate voucher.
