NELSON Bay IGA recently donated $2500 to Port Stephen’s Women’s Cancer Support Group (PSWCSG Inc).
The donation was made from Nelson Bay IGA’s Community Chest.
Over $75 million has been donated to community organisations in the past 13 years via IGA’s Community Chest.
Community Chest is a venture whereby a percentage of dollars spent at your local IGA store are donated to local community charities.
“We are so grateful to be one of the beneficiaries of IGA’s generosity,” Rhondda Shaw, Secretary of PSWSG told Bay News Of The Area.
Port Stephens Women’s Cancer Support Group Inc is a not-for-profit support group run by local volunteers to offer support and assistance to women with any form of cancer, and their partners, through every stage of their journey.
Monthly morning teas held at Baroque Coffee House provide the opportunity for a casual catch up and to meet new friends.
PSWCSG organises various fundraising activities throughout the year to raise funds to be able to provide this support for the community.
They also offer Wellness Days for members held at Soldiers Point.
Activities include guest speakers and therapists, providing information, promoting healthy lifestyles, maintaining a library of wellness books and DVDs, providing wigs, hats and scarfs and organising transport to treatments and various other support regimes.
With the support of the Cancer Council we can provide assistance with domestic chores.
“Our aim for the future is to establish a Wellness Centre in Port Stephens to help patients, their families and carers access support and information from trained staff and volunteers,” Ms Shaw said.
The organisation also provides access to complementary treatments, access to nutritional advice, access to legal and financial support as well as assisting people to find ways of leading a healthier lifestyle.
