Help – I’ve fallen behind in my rent – what should I do?

THE first step is to be up front & honest with your Property Manager at the Real Estate Agency.

Of course, it will be flagged at the agency that you have fallen behind, but if you have contacted your agency so that they know you are genuinely willing to amend the issue, they can assist you in getting back on track.
The PM can discuss the matter with both you & your landlord, organising a repayment plan for you, so that you can catch up as quickly as possible. An extra $20 a week can be paid with your regular weekly rent until you catch up, as an example.
Is it just that you’ve forgotten to pay? Maybe a direct debit from your bank account into the agency account is the way to make life easier. This is so useful for busy tenants, a set & forget method. This is secure & easy for both parties.
The absolute worst thing you can do is to ignore the problem, as it will only get worse & it will also impact negatively on your credit rating for future rentals.
Hope that helps.
