140 people took part in last year’s event, and just on $8,000 was raised to be distributed among a number of not-for profit organisations.

“The young and the old of the community benefit from this, “Tea Gardens Senior Constable Dave Coyle told News Of The Area.

Among the beneficiaries, the junior Soccer Club, the PCYC, the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club, Meals on Wheels and the free Clinic Bus.

‘’The donation today means that we can continue our service and run the clinic bus and transport our patients, without having to charge a fee, it’s as simple as that,” Co-Ordinator Anne-Marie Fowler told News Of The Area.

“If we don’t get money donated we can’t run the bus”.

The free clinic bus has been running for 25 years and every year volunteer drivers transport around 150 patients to medical appointments in Newcastle, Raymond Terrace and Maitland.

Charmaine Seil from Meals on Wheels said, “The donation means we can upgrade some of the equipment in our kitchen and we can continue to support many residents to remain independent and stay in their homes.”

Our local Meals on Wheels provides a staggering 14 thousand meals a year to over 200 clients.

They deliver from Bulahdelah to Swan Bay and all parts in between.

Constable Dave Coyle also wanted to thank Steve Ellicott from Tea Gardens Engineering for providing the materials and labour for the new ladder installed at the wharf opposite the Tea Gardens Hotel.

Not to be forgotten, the Hawks Nest Golf Club.

And pop this date in your diary, the 2018 Police Charity Golf Day will be held on Friday 12 October.
