At both Irrawang High School and Tomaree High School students can grab a fishing rod and reel and spend their sports time potentially catching dinner.
In Nelson Bay the students fish the break wall where they stand a chance of catching luderick, and bream.
Around Raymond Terrace, the students fishing for sport can catch species like flathead and bream.
At Irrawang High School when planning the year’s sporting activities, sports staff try to keep as many activities as local as possible to support and engage with their local community.
Lue Fagan of Irrawang High School told News Of The Area, “Students are always encouraged to provide ideas to staff about potential new sports they would be interested in.”
Students can currently choose from a range of competitive and non-competitive sports including Ten Pin Bowling, visiting the PCYC, CrossFit Deck, tennis, lawn bowls, Oztag, basketball, football, fishing, golf, and swimming.
