THE Rotary Club of Myall Coast is at present hosting a participant in their International Rotary “New Generations Service Exchange” (NGSE) program.
Claudia Euler is a recently qualified Pastry Chef from the city of Bremen in Germany and will be spending three months in Australia.
Ian Mackenzie-Smith from the Rotary Club said, “During her stay, she will working with Master Pastry Chefs in several different bakeries in the Lower Hunter.”
“At present she is with Milton at the Myall Street Bakery Cafe,” he said.
Claudia said that Milton is such an experienced Pastry Chef and is a great tutor.
“He is passing on his skills that I will find invaluable in my future profession,” said Claudia.
Arriving in Australia three weeks ago, Claudia’s first stop is Tea Gardens. Hosted by Rotary President, Brian Oakley and his wife Bev, she is working the usual bakery hours of starting at 4am and finishing around 10am.
From there she spends time with the Fifi le Femme Bakery in Charlestown Square, The Blackberry Artisan Bakery in the Maitland Gaol and with Amanda’s Tea Gardens Bakehouse at the Myall Quays shopping centre.
Claudia said, “Eventually I would like to own my bakery cafe and teach other apprentices my trade.”
Claudia was born and brought up in Hamburg and has two siblings, a sister and a brother. Her parents are enjoying their retirement after many years in the Public Service.
“I really love all things sweet and I thought working in a patisserie, would cure me but it has not,” said Claudia.
“I still try new and unusual cakes and enjoy the artistry in creating really elaborate cakes and dessert dishes.”
Claudia is a member of her local Rotaract club in Bremen. This is a Rotary off-shoot, created to cater for young adults who are interested in the aims and objectives of the Rotary movement.
“The Club has become a large part of my life,” she said.
Another past participant in the NGSE program was our (former) NOTA journalist, Nathalie Craig.
Nathalie spent her exchange in the Midlands of England with a large local newspaper and gained experience that has stood her well in her journalistic career.
