Years of work will culminate in the official opening of Tea Gardens Men’s Shed in February. The official opening is set to take place from 10am on Monday, February 2 at the new Men’s Shed in Wanya Road, Tea Gardens industrial estate.
“Everyone is welcome to join us for the opening, to come on down and have a look around,” president of Tea Gardens Men’s Shed Ian Robinson said.
Men’s Sheds are an Australian-wide initiative, giving blokes an outlet to work on meaningful projects at their own pace, in their own time and in the company of others.
A key focus is to advance the well-being and health of its members and to encourage social inclusion.
“To create a Men’s Shed in the area, we started looking for somewhere probably about three years ago. Then the old tip shop came up,” Mr Robinson explained.
The 50 members of the club have been in the shed since August 2014, but are looking forward to an official opening.
“We’re looking forward to the opening; we’ll have deputy mayor Len Roberts there and Bob Baldwin coming.”
Tea Gardens Men’s shed operates Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30am until 2pm.
Mr Robinson said anyone interested in joining is invited to pop by for a look around and a chat.
Joining coasts $10 and an annual membership is $20.
