Tuesday 4th September: A break in our much needed rain allowed Round 3 of the Open Consistency Competition to proceed but there was no social bowls played. A good turn up of members presented to wish one of our “younger” bowlers, Karen McPhie a happy 60th birthday. Also birthday greetings to Dot Montgomery and Deyonne Page. On Rink 2 Loretta Baker held the lead against Lorraine Murphy until the 18th end, then Lorraine took control of the game.

Final score on the 27th end Lorraine 150 v Loretta 120. The game on Rink 3 lasted 25 ends Robyn Beaumont winning 152 v Dale Cameron 98. Maynie Roberts defeated Lynne Green 151 v 79 on the 23rd end. A battle on Rink 5 Jean Glover v Karen McPhie. Jean holding a 16 shot lead after the 9th end, by the 20th end 100 all. Karen won the 21st end giving her a 2 point advantage but Jean added 10 points to her tally on the 23rd end then on the next 3 ends added 24 points. After 29 ends the winner was Jean 151 v 139. Thanks to Karen Green for Umpiring, the Controlling Body Jo Younghusband and to the Markers. Kayelene Pearson gets to enjoy dining at the Myall Bistro and Café by winning the raffle.

Thursday 6th September: Semi Final of the Open Consistency Competition plus social bowls. A good win to Maynie Roberts against Jean Glover 154 v 76. Not wishing to retract from Maynie’s win, congratulations to Jean (a relatively new bowler), for reaching the semi finals in this competition. Its great to see our members “having a bowl” in our club championships. A tough battle on the next rink Robyn Beaumont v Lorraine Murphy. Through the majority of this game Robyn held the lead by 6-8 shots. On 5 ends these competitors scored equally 5 shots. The 15th end Robyn leading by just 2 points, 19th end a 6 point lead, 25th end lead increased to 14. A different story on the 28th end 140 all! What a contest, between two great bowlers, but we all know there can only be one winner. Robyn Beaumont winning on the 30th end 153 v Lorraine Murphy 147. Thanks to the Markers and Karen McPhie for Umpiring. The tentative date for the final between Maynie Roberts and Robyn Beaumont is the 25th September. This will be a great game of bowls to watch spectators welcome. Social bowls played 2 games of Triples, 12 ends.

Upcoming events: Annis Young Competition Round 1, 11th September and Round 2 13th September. Two winners of this competition will proceed to the district event. Newcastle District Spring Carnival commences 17th September.
