COFFS Harbour Water Polo Club (CHWP) Juniors are on a high with wins at the recent Coffs Water Polo Tournament.

The annual friendly carnival saw for the first time in history the CHWP A and B grade junior teams beat Alstonville.

David Eiler, Coach/Manager said the junior players were consistently improving.

“The CHWP juniors have done so well this year as they get much more confident with their skills and are fitter and stronger than previous years.

“We have some great team captains who have been with the club for a couple of years and are showing they can lead with their experience and confidence backing themselves and their teammates.”

Tamlan McKay, CHWP President said, “The recent carnival was a great success bringing much needed inter-club games to northern NSW.

“Our junior teams eagerly awaited the opportunity to test their new skills against other clubs and showed a massive improvement across the board from previous encounters.

“Feedback from the visiting clubs has been fantastic and we have already locked in the date for next year.”

Harriet Playle, Juniors Coach/Manager said, “I was so proud watching the juniors put into action their skills and experience that they have worked hard on all summer.

“Our experienced players who have been with CHWP club for up to five years know each other well and have consequently created a more powerful and coordinated team play this season in both A and B grades.

“Some of these players are looking forward to playing at Homebush in April against juniors from across NSW.

“It augurs well for the club that we have at least ten players with the ability now to play State level water polo – a huge achievement for the club.

“We are also grateful for our families who have brought along their water-loving friends and created a lovely friendly atmosphere within the club,” Ms Playle said.

A confident team will head off for an upcoming tournament on March 27 in Taree, another town with a local water polo team, the Mid North Coast Tritons.
