Volunteer Pat Tate said the building is a focal point for the small community and provides a meeting place for locals. “It is meant to be a hub where our local community can meet and to provide a place where younger and older people can gain some new skills,” she said. “The money we raise goes towards community events and the upkeep of our buildings.” Pat said the community run, not-for-profit café is part of the wider Wootton Community Network which connects its members through many varied activities, including community dinner nights and movie evenings. The café will be open during the Great Lakes Spring Food Trail from 10am-3pm on Sunday 1 October. “The general rule is good food baked to order,” Jim said. “We try to keep the prices down so as many people as possible can come and enjoy socialising together.” The Great Lakes Food Trail is held each season with the aim of showcasing the region’s finest produce and producers.
