WOOLGOOLGA Surf Life Saving Club has applied for a modification of the club’s approval conditions to allow the club to hold 40 night functions a year and permit live and amplified music at these functions.

The club is currently permitted by Coffs Harbour City Council to hold only ten evening functions per year and must follow a Council imposed condition that ‘no amplified or live music is to occur during evening functions’.

Woolgoolga’s new Surf Life Saving Club opened on 26 September 2020 and provides storage for senior and junior surf lifesaving craft, a patrol room, first aid room, training room, gymnasium, function area, radio and surveillance room, a cafe and amenities.

The function room is located on the second floor of the building and consists of an indoor function area and an outdoor balcony with direct views over Woolgoolga Main Beach.

Since opening, the club has hosted five evening functions in the upstairs function room, with no complaints from surrounding neighbours being received.

Documents presented to Council in support of the change of conditions state “the facility is one of a kind with stunning views of Woolgoolga Main Beach and will be hired for private or corporate events to enable the club to meet its financial obligations without imposing on the local community for donations”.

“With the limited availability of function rooms like the one at WSLSC in the local Woolgoolga or even Coffs Harbour area it can only be seen as a benefit to stakeholders without any negative impact on the local community,” supporting documents stated.

The function room closes at midnight when evening functions are being held and the surf lifesaving club’s usual daily operating hours are from 6am to 7pm.
