Local golfers were joined by 20 visiting golfers on Friday 8 April, to do battle for the inaugural “Grey Nomads’ Cup” which was held at the Hawks Nest Golf Club.
The event which was proudly sponsored by Palm Lake Resort, was a four person Ambrose and was one of a number of activities held as part of the Grey & Thespian Mardi Gras coinciding with Seniors Week celebrations.
Winners of the ‘Grey Nomads’ Cup’ for 2016 were Gerard and Pauline Power (Castle Hill) who teamed with locals Robert Marsh and David Gilbert.
In presenting the trophies Ms Jen Nichols, Sales Manager of Palm Lake Resorts said, “Palm Lake Resort was pleased to have sponsored this year’s event and they look forward to providing even greater support to the event in 2017.”
Runners-up on the day were Ross Hewitt, Hans Schmeding, John Burke and Paul Burke, with third place going to Warren Gorton, Sam Johnston, Michael Thornhill and John Campbell.
Event organiser David Gilbert said, “The day had been particularly successful and the response from participants had been very positive – it was a great day.”
He thanked Palm Lake Resort for their generous support of the event, as well as local Hawks Nest Golf Professional, Andrew McCormack for his assistance on the day and for the extensive range of prizes provided for the day.
Visiting players all marvelled at the presentation of the course and said they will all certainly return next year to contend for the coveted ‘Grey Nomads’ Cup’.
