Cure de Tour visits Forster/Tuncurry and Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens

Great Lakes Tourism is asking Forster Tuncurry and Hawks Nest / Tea Gardens locals to give the 2016 Signature Cure de Tour an enormous welcome, Great Lakes style, when the bicycle charity team roll into town on Thursday 5 – Saturday 7 May.

The Channel Seven Sunrise team will be on hand for live coverage in both Forster (John Wright Park) from 6.30am on Friday 6 May and Hawks Nest (at either Hawks Nest Surf Lifesaving Club or Marine Drive Tea Gardens) from 6.30am on Saturday 7 May.

“Cure de Tour is celebrating its tenth anniversary and everyone is most welcome to come along to these venues to welcome the Cure de Tour which is retracing the inaugural route from Brisbane to Sydney,” said Council’s Coordinator of Tourism, Ms Sharon Bultitude.

“We really need a crowd along to give them a rousing welcome.  You might even perhaps say hi to Mark Beretta and James Tobin.”

A team of 120 riders, 40 stage riders and 40 support crew members will travel 1,520kms over 10 days raising funds for cancer research, support and prevention projects.

Along the way donations of $10,000 will be made to each community visited to fund a local cancer project.

“We’re honoured that the Tour will visit not one but two communities in the Great Lakes,” said Ms Bultitude.

You can also book in to attend one of the community celebration dinners – on Thursday 5 May at 6.30pm at Club Forster or on Friday 6 May from 6pm at the Hawks Nest Golf Club.
