Where once stood Coral trees, now stand five Port Jackson Figs along Marine Drive in Tea Gardens.
The two metre high trees were planted last week as part of the ongoing program to replace the Corals.
Arborist Josh Duncombe supervised the operation for MidCoast Council.
“They’re endemic to the area, long lived, with a massive canopy,” Josh told The News Of The Area.
Social media was awash with comments when the Coral Trees were removed in September due to their roots being compromised and having been deemed a noxious weed by the Department of Agriculture.
No such problems however with their replacements.
“Their iconic to the area, “ said Mr Duncombe.
“Any development in the future, will have these (the Port Jackson figs) as their centrepiece.”
The trees, sourced by local nursery Woodwards, are between five and ten years old and should double their size in the next 12 months.
The figs also have a lifespan of around 200 years.
