Over 150 descendants of Charles and Dora Macpherson gathered in Bulahdelah recently for a weekend of re-acquaintance and talk.
Nine of Charles and Dora’s eleven children were represented at the reunion with families travelling from as far away as Perth for the celebrations.
The get-together began with a picnic at Mungo Brush which was a popular spot for the Macpherson family in years gone by, particularly around Christmas and New Year for the Mungo Regatta.
The large family attended a Thanksgiving and Worship Service at Bulahdelah Uniting Church on the Sunday morning which was followed by speeches and impromptu singing of old Scottish songs.
As part of the celebrations, a large cake made by Robyn Guthrie was cut by two of Charles and Dora’s daughters, Thora and Nancy, to the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
Family members also enjoyed a book compiled by David Macpherson containing family details, photographs and anecdotes dating back to the 1820’s and a family tree wall chart stretching 20 metres around the church hall.
The gathering moved to Bulahdelah Showground for a BBQ lunch, tennis, swimming and games.
Some family members also went on a bush walk to the sight where Colin was killed in 1939 out the back of “Montrose,” the original family home.
The families enjoyed a wonderful weekend of sharing and have been blessed with knowing God’s hand upon them.
The event was organised by Thora-Lou Smith with the assistance of many helpers and had been 12 months in the making.
