The $1.3 million project, being constructed by Taylors Beach Pool Pty Ltd, was funded through the Clubgrants Category 3 Infrastructure Grants program.

Port Stephens Duty MLC, Catherine Cusack, who announced the funding, said, the project would provide another option for the local community to improve their health and wellbeing.

“The project will see a new facility built that includes a multi-use warm water pool suitable for learn-to-swim classes, swimming carnivals, aqua aerobics and hydrotherapy,” Ms Cusack said.

Port Stephens Councillor John Nell is an avid swimmer, he told News Of The Area, “We all should welcome the opportunity for kids to learn to swim and for adults to exercise.

“It is essential for all kids growing up in Port Stephens, to become good swimmers to be able to enjoy our beautiful waterways, and for adults, it is safe exercise to keep the body flexible,” he said.

Liberal Candidate for Port Stephens Jaimie Abbott said, “I’m so excited about this project, there is a huge need for hydrotherapy services in our local area, it’s something which locals bring up with me all the time.

“It’s also great to see the owners of this new pool are swim coaches, they are clearly quite passionate about teaching kids how to swim and that will be a huge benefit for kids in our area.

“As a soon to be new Mum, I am looking forward to taking my child here one day to learn how to swim in the warm water and the pool will be available and comfortable all year round,” she said.

Mayor Ryan Palmer told News Of The Area, “It’s great to have Catherine Cusack MLC in town to make some important funding announcements that will benefit Port Stephens.

“From a new swim centre at Taylors Beach to more funding for Caring for Our Youth Port Stephens, right through to keeping our precious environment safe from weeds, these are all welcome funding announcements that will have a positive impact on many people in our community,” he said.

Residents will have to wait for construction to finish but the facility should prove to be a popular addition to the health and wellbeing options available to Bay residents.
