A second pedestrian island is needed at Tea Gardens

Opinion

Dear News Of The Area,

I HAVE written to Council to suggest that a second pedestrian island be put on Myall Street, in the vicinity of the Hotel and shops, at the corner of Myall Street and Maxwell Street.

As Council will be aware our community has a large number of retired residents, both living at home and in the Over 55’s villages, as well as the nursing homes.

This has led to a greater number of residents driving mobility scooters, using walkers and other mobility aids to get around town making them more vulnerable when crossing the street.

Myall Street is the main thoroughfare through Tea Gardens as well as the only access from the highway to Hawks Nest and that corner sometimes has blind spots for pedestrians and drivers alike.

A Pedestrian Island at the Maxwell Street crossing, either behind the Hotel or in front of the Marine & Bait Shop would be an ideal solution to the problem and give all pedestrians a safe crossing.
