Or media@newsofthearea.com.au Or CLICK FOR ADVERT QUOTE The first newspaper in the bay was the Port Stephens Times by a Mr Barnard (his son was, or still is an electrician in the Bay.) the next owner was a Wally Caldwell who later sold to Fred Causon, later it closed down, mainly because a new paper “The Port Stephens Gazette” started. It was run by Tom Barras, an “A’ class ‘Jurno’. I started taking photos for Tom and was making a little money on the side. I was at the time an Instrument Fitter in the RAAF at Williamtown. Tom was use to City style journalism and did not go over well with some locals. I left and started the “Pictorial” with my wife as the owner.
