Metta participated in the international Hats for Happiness event to raise funds during Mental Awareness Week.
She is honoured to have her hats sit alongside Queen Elizabeth’s milliner Phillip Treacy’s work, as well as many other notorious worldwide milliners.
The milliner and fashion construction designer holds a diploma in fashion design and technology.
Several mini hats and hat blocks have been created and donated to raise much needed funds.
The hats are photographed, and auctioned off; the photographs of the hats are collated into a book which is also sold.
Metta is a born and bred Bay local, having attended Anna Bay Public School as well as Nelson Bay Central, and Raymond Terrace High Schools.
As an artist, Metta is interested in different mediums, so along with millinery and fabric work, you’ll find Metta in the woodwork room at the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre.
Metta Henderson told News Of The Area, “I have found my happy place when creating and sharing my millinery pieces, interesting clothing construction as well as my woodwork.”
“Drawing from the environment around me, I use found objects alongside high end quality fabrics; I love using natural fibres such as silk, linen, straw, raffia and fine cotton, which are comfy to wear and look glamorous.”
“My hats are made from mainly natural fibres; a long standing love affair with raffia continues.”
“I have a riotous imagination that is tricky to contain at times, but leads to many individual, stunning pieces, exploring the boundaries of fibres and fabrics and pushing them to extremes and beyond, leading to unique and amazing concepts,” she said.
Metta Henderson’s hats are on display at the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre until 5 September.
