Organised by the Children’s Book Council of Australia it’s a chance to bring words, images and stories into the hearts and minds of children and adults. The Children’s Book Council was established in 1945 when Australian children’s books were few and Australian authors and illustrators were virtually unknown.” How times have changed. “The theme is ‘Escape to Everywhere’ for this year’s Book Week,” Librarian Carol Johnson told News Of The Area. “‘The Snow Wombat’ will be featured during ‘Story Time’ at the Tea Gardens Library. “We’ll read the book and also do some ‘Wombat’ craft,” Carol said. ‘The Snow Wombat’ was written by Melbourne author Susannah Chambers and illustrated by another Melbournian Mark Jackson. The story is set in the Australian High Country and was shortlisted on the CBCA Book of the Year Awards, Early Childhood category. So if you have a child or grandchild of preschool age head to Tea Gardens Library on Monday 21 August from 9.30am for a great read and lots of fun. The activity is free and there’s no need to book.
