Her original goal of raising $250 for blood cancer research was reached within her first day of signing up, and she has now raised $450.

The shave helps provide vital research into  lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma, with blood cancer being the third most common type of cancer-related death in Australia.

It has claimed more lives than breast cancer or melanoma.

Brooke told News Of The Area, “I decided to shave my head because we had a family member who had blood cancer.”

“I’m excited now to do it but I think I’ll get very nervous when the time comes to shave my hair,” she said.

Brooke also wants to donate her hair to be turned into a wig for cancer survivors who have lost theirs during their treatment process.

The shave will take place at Marketplace Raymond Terrace on 16 March at 12.30pm.

Other locals will also be having their heads shaved on the day.

“Please sponsor me to give Aussie families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need,” Brooke said.

Donations can be made until the end of June at World’s Greatest Shaves’ web page and searching ‘Brooke Nicholson’.
