“The best part of being a mum is the simple things…the smiles, the laughs, the cuddles and making lasting memories together as a family,” she said.

“I enjoy being involved in everything my boys are interested in, because it’s these moments that you never get back, they just grow up too quickly.”

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, Erin’s sons Blake and Charlie are busy planning a few surprises to show their mum how much they appreciate everything she does.

“Mum cooks the best dinners, spaghetti and meatballs are my favorite, and she makes a great apple crumble,” eight-year-old Charlie said.

“She’s a good mum because she plays scrabble with us, helps us with our homework and we do lots of outdoor things together,” 10-year-old Blake added.

Erin grew up in Chicago and met her husband Geoff while they were both working at a Summer Camp in America.

As her mum still lives in Chicago and they see each other as regularly as the distance allows, Erin said she is grateful to have the support of her mother-in-law Maureen.

Maureen, who has four adult children and 12 grandchildren, said she thoroughly enjoys having an active role in their lives.

In addition to working full time, keeping the house running and ferrying children around, like many mums, Erin is also heavily involved in the community.

As one of the driving forces behind the Bulahdelah Junior Cricket Club, Erin said any spare time is devoted to fundraising, training sessions and organisation.

“Community spirit is important as it brings together both younger and older generations,” she said.

“I encourage my boys to be active within the community in hope that it will teach them the benefits of helping others and to be proud of where they come from.”

On Sunday, Blake and Charlie hope everyone thanks their mothers and other special women in their lives, for the love and support they give.
