If you are aged between 13-17 years and have completed your SRC (Surf Rescue Certificate) or Bronze Medallion Award, you are invited to join the cadets at Birubi Point Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) on Friday afternoons at 5pm.

Most club members begin in Nippers and then advance to the next stage called Cadets.

However, Cadets is a very good place to begin as a future Lifesaver.

“The whole focus is to have fun while practicing their skills,” Sam Faragher, Youth Development Coordinator, told Bay News Of The Area.

“Cadets is also conducted in order to help the members remain focused and remain active in the SLSC into their adulthood,” Ms Faragher said.

The Cadets meet at Birubi Point Surf Life Saving Club to practice board paddling, board starts and gain confidence in the surf in a fun supervised environment.

The Cadet training is supervised and conducted by Club members with many years’ experience in Surf Life Saving.

Parents are also welcome to join in or help with the barbecue.

After training, it is a social time where the cadets usually have a chat and a sausage sizzle and plan any future events.

Sometimes the venues and times change and include a paddle at Nelson Bay or Shoal Bay for a change of scenery and conditions.

In the past the Cadets have enjoyed activities which have included a day out at the Tree Tops Adventure Park, Battlezone Laser Skirmish and movie nights.

Throughout the winter months the cadets have the opportunities to stay in touch via a Pizza/Movie night or a quick paddle depending on the water temperatures.
