27 JANUARY – It was windy and overcast, but that did nothing to deter 54 players taking to the greens in the usual Nominated Triples competition.

The winners on 19 points were Graeme Watkins, Terry Munright and Daryl Martin.

The lucky losers on 16 points were Brian McPhie, Col Amos and Mark Hair.

30 January – There was a disappointing field in the Minor Pairs Championship this year, with only seven teams entering thus the initial round was the quarter-final leg of the competition held today.

In the results were as follows;

Bob Peady and Graeme Reynolds defeated rookies Andy Docherty and John Payne 24-7.

Leigh Hunt and Mike Delacca had too much experience for Hylton Newman and Lon Richards winning 32-4.

Stu Sturrock and Garry Wynne had a good win over Peter Campbell and Dennis Wilberforce 17-8.

David Garcia and Rob Young enjoyed the bye.

31 January – In contrast to the day before, players in the Club Minor Pairs Championship enjoyed a drop in temperature and humidity with a nice south-easterly blowing.

The grass green really looks a picture but with the recent rain and humidity, it was running a little slow for the semi-final round.

Leigh Hunt and Mike Delacca booked a finals berth today with a comprehensive 19-8, win over Bob Peady and Graeme Reynolds.

Joining them in the finals next week will be David Garcia and Rob Young after their 16-14 victory against Gary Wynne and Stu Sturrock.

In other news – The nomination sheet for the Minor Singles has been posted and it is hoped that it will attract a larger field than did the Minor Pairs.

There will be little time to squeeze this important Club Championship event in before the much-awaited Newcastle District Pennant season which commences on Saturday 13 February.

The whole of the Pennant season was aborted last year, due to Covid, so it is hoped that it will be completed this year without incident.
