Michelle Ryan and daughter Bailey are eagerly awaiting news on when Kindergarten transition will begin

BAILEY Ryan has been looking forward to her ‘big school’ debut for months – but thanks to COVID-19, she and thousands of other 2020 Kindergarten students will have to wait a little longer.

News came in this week from the Department of Education that Kindergarten orientation and transition to school activities remain on hold until further notice.

“Bailey is so excited, she can’t wait to get to big school,” her mum Michelle said.

“I guess trying to match her excitement with the unknown is the hard part.

“They’ve already missed out on so much in their last year of preschool, I hope she doesn’t miss out on too many things because of COVID,” said Michelle.

The Department of Education has suggested schools look at connecting remotely to begin the transition for their incoming Kindergarten cohort, citing video tours, online meetings or even closed Kindergarten social media pages as possible options in the meantime.

Other restrictions now in force for public schools in NSW include the ban of all group singing and other chanting activities, as well as the use of wind instruments in group settings.

School formals, dances, graduations and other social events are also not permitted.

Everyone remains hopeful Term 4 will bring some good news.
