The new clubhouse has exceeded everyone’s expectations with “worth the wait”, “iconic”, “stunning” and “brilliant” being some of the comments expressed by members and visitors. The week saw a series of events to acknowledge the support of all stakeholders over the past 24 months. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday recognised the different categories of playing members. On Thursday, the club’s directors hosted lunch for the patrons, foundation plus life members who had held 40 plus years continuous membership. Friday’s lunch was to acknowledge and thank the business partners for their continuing support together with representatives from community organisations that are supported by the club. Sunday’s event, a Family Fun Day, and open to all, was dedicated to the social members and members of the community. Children’s entertainment, kangaroo encounter tours, barbecue and golf clinics were among the activities. The dinner on Saturday evening was the cornerstone of the week’s activities. The ABC’s sports commentator, Gerry Collins, was the MC for the evening. The guest speakers were Paterson MP Meryl Swanson, Port Stephens MP Kate Washington, and councillor Steve Tucker, representing Bruce MacKenzie. The opening ceremony, cutting the ribbon, was performed by life members Brian Diemar and Margaret Sproule. Then the wait was over. The speeches acknowledged that the clubhouse with its “wow” factor was not just a new home for the members, but a major asset to the community, acting as a social hub for years to come.
