The Tea Gardens Library is looking to start a new ‘Daytime’ Club.

“One of the initiatives we’re working on is trying to work out if there are enough people in the community who would like to start a new Book Club but in the daytime,” Librarian Chris Shelly said.

“We’ve got a few book clubs in town, but most meet at night.”

“There are a number of people in the community who cannot meet at night for various reasons.”

The first meeting of the proposed new Book Club will be held on Monday 17 September at 2 pm at the Tea Gardens Library.

“Anyone who’s interested can come along and find out just what Book Clubs are all about, what support we can offer them and see if the group gets along and would like to continue meeting,” Chris said.

If there’s enough support, the Book Club would meeting monthly at the Tea Gardens Library one a day to be decided.

Eventually, the group would become autonomous although always receiving support from the Library.

The first meeting is free.

“If the group agrees to form a club then each club member pays a small fee each year and is then able to access all the sets of books that we own,” Chris said.

For example if they started reading Jane Austin then each member would be able to borrow a copy.

Chris estimates it would cost less than 20 cents a week to belong to the club, to enjoy a new set of books every month and each other’s company.

If you’re interested please leave your name and telephone number with staff at the Tea Gardens Library or give them a call on 4997 1265.
