Man dies, falling down a well or sewer tank at Twelve Mile Creek, Karuah

An man has died after falling head first down a well or sewer septic tank at 12 Mile Creek, Karuah area just north of Raymond Terrace.

The man could not be saved. He was aged in his 70’s. Emergency services rushed to the property but nothing could be done to help him.

Efforts continued late into the day to recover his body.

Police are  investigating and also looking at whether he was electrocuted.

The crime scene remains at the Twelve Mile Creek property.

A report will be prepared for the coroner, including investigations into whether some exposed wires on a power box near where the man was discovered may have caused his death.

The man, aged in his 70s, appeared to have been working on a pump on the property, near the Bucketts Way east of Karuah, when the incident occurred.

Port Stephens detectives are investigating.
